What are the steps of a beauty routine?
By definition, a routine is thought to be monotonous. However, when it comes to face care, a beauty routine is hardly boring. Quite the opposite, actually! It’s more like a special treat you give yourself every day to enhance the appearance of your skin.
But where should you start? In this article, you'll find some great tips for creating an everyday beauty routine that's right for you!
Why adopt a morning and night beauty routine ?
Have you ever forgotten to remove your makeup before going to bed? And in the morning, do you sometimes feel too rushed to take care of your face? Do you think a quick splash of water will be enough to get the day off to a good start? Watch out! No matter the practice, these kinds of shortcuts are bad for your skin and will cause:
- Skin imperfections
- Clogged pores
- Dull skin
- Accelerated aging of the skin
And for truly fresh, radiant skin, just using a day cream is not enough either. A good everyday beauty routine, adapted to your skin type, is indeed crucial.
The five-step night routine
The day has finally come to an end! What skin care should you do before going to bed? In what order should you apply your products to maximize their effects during the night? Here are our instructions for a complete night beauty routine!
Step 1: Remove your makeup
To keep your skin healthy and prevent irritation, be sure to remove your makeup every evening! Makeup-free skin is a crucial starting point for a clean beauty routine.
- Pour a generous amount of eye makeup remover onto a cotton face pad.
- Pat your closed eyes with the pad and let the product do its magic for at least 30 seconds. The makeup remover will soak into your lashes and eyelids, dissolving a maximum of makeup.
- Wipe the pad downward over your lashes and eyelids.
Did you know?
To keep your skin from drying out, choose a cream or oil makeup remover. If you use waterproof mascara, an oil-based makeup remover will be necessary.
Step 2: Cleanse
Once you have removed your eye makeup, clean your entire face.
- Wash your hands.
- Use a cleanser suited to your age and skin type. For example, cleansing milk eliminates impurities and is still gentle on the skin.
- Apply the product using circular motions, then remove any excess with a tissue.
- Rinse your face with lukewarm water
- Pat skin dry with a soft, clean towel.
For a super quick beauty solution, use makeup remover wipes. But beware! This product does not provide a deep cleanse, so be sure to thoroughly wash your face after using a wipe to remove excess makeup.
Did you know?
Do you have normal or oily skin? You can wash your face with water. But not in the shower, since hot water can dry out your skin and create redness.
Dry skin does not tolerate the lime found in tap water. Instead, use a no-rinse cleanser, such as a cleansing milk or micellar water.
Step 3: Toning
Initially designed to counter the scouring effect of certain cleansers, toning water helps restore the skin’s pH after cleansing. It is less crucial today, but toning water is still the ideal product in your face beauty routine for removing the very last traces of makeup. In addition to refreshing and softening the skin, toning water will help the skin absorb future skin care products.
- Place a small amount of toning water on an already dampened cotton face pad.
- Glide the cotton pad over your entire face. You can also pat the skin.
- To avoid irritating your skin, don’t rub when applying the toning water.
Did you know?
A salicylic or glycolic acid-based toner is highly recommended for oily skin. It makes pores less visible and regulates sebum production.
Step 4 (if needed): Mask and serums
A sheet mask adds perfect moisturizing to your beauty routine when you’re on the go! There's no need to wait to enjoy its effects: as soon as you remove it, your skin is clearer, smoother and more supple.
- Follow the instructions on the package and let the formula soak into your skin.
- Massage your face once you have removed the sheet mask.
Facial serums provide beauty routine skin care for your particular skin type (hydration, anti-wrinkle, pigmentation disorder, dilated pores, loss of elasticity).
Important! The active ingredients in serums are three to five times more concentrated than in creams. Before you use this type of product in your beauty routine, do a skin test by applying a small drop of serum to your skin. Wait 24 hours and then check to see if there is a reaction
Step 5: Moisturize
Whether you use lotion, cream or gel, moisturizing the face is as important in your night beauty routine as it is in the morning. In fact, the night cream nourishes and hydrates your skin while you sleep.
- Apply a small amount of night cream to the palm of your hand.
- Rub your hands together to warm up the active ingredients.
- Rub in the product downward, starting with the neck and working from the middle to the edges.
- Lightly pat the face, neck and décolletage to stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation.
- For a little moisture boost, apply a facial oil over your night cream. This is the last product to use on your skin. Oil is a fatty substance that does not allow most products to reach the epidermis.
Did you know?
The delicate skin under the eyes is different from that of the face, and therefore requires a special beauty routine skin care. Choose a gel cream according to the dryness of your skin and to your dark circles, fine lines and puffiness.
The two-step morning beauty routine
If you thoroughly cleansed your face before heading to bed, your morning skin care routine will be a snap! It will purify your skin and make sure your skin care products will fully penetrate your skin during the day.
Step 1: Refresh
To refresh your skin in the morning, forget the cold shower! Instead, opt for thermal water, which is very effective in reducing redness and desensitizing the skin.
- Spray a light mist over your entire face.
- Let it dry.
Step 2: Protect
Day cream is an important choice in your beauty routine calendar! It should be the right formula for your skin type (oily, combination or dry).
- Apply day cream like you would night cream.
- Warm up the product between your palms.
- Spread the cream downward over your face, neck and décolletage.
Important! Don't forget sun protection. Choose a sunscreen that suits your skin.
- SPF 30 to 50 is perfect for spring and summer.
- SPF 15 is good for the gray days of fall and winter.
